Announcements

FREE Included with every WebForger site

One notice across your whole site, as a bar along the top or a card in the middle of the page, with the dates it should start and stop already set. It reads your site's own colours and type, so there is nothing to style, and when the end date passes the notice takes itself down without anyone remembering to.

A quiet bar or a card over the page, your choice Starts and expires on the dates you give us Never appears on cart, checkout or thank you pages

The two shapes it takes

A bar you can ignore, or a card you cannot.

Both previews below are the announcement running on a placeholder store with sample wording, so you can see the two levels of interruption side by side before choosing one.

Notice bar
A notice bar across the top of a shop home page reading free shipping on orders over 150 dollars, with a call to action button and a close control

Interface preview with sample wording. The bar sits above everything, never dims the page and can be dismissed. Use it for a standing fact such as a shipping threshold or the hours over a holiday period.

Popup notice
A popup card centred over a dimmed shop page announcing a public holiday closure, with two buttons and a footnote

Interface preview with sample wording. The popup dims the page behind it, which is the right weight for something a visitor would be annoyed to miss, such as a closure or a change of address. Both versions take their colours, corners and type from the site they are on.

Why it earns its place

The notice you forget to take down costs more than the one you never put up.

Every business has a handful of things that are true for two weeks and then are not. You are closed between Christmas and the sixth. The sale runs until Sunday. Orders placed after Thursday ship the following week. These are the easiest questions your site can answer, and they are the ones it usually answers wrong, because somebody has to remember to put the notice up and then remember to take it down again.

A notice with an end date solves the second half of that, which is the half people actually get wrong. You write the dates when you write the words, and the announcement retires itself on time whether or not anyone is thinking about it. Everything else here exists so the notice does not cost you something else on the way through: not your page speed, not a mobile ranking, and not a sale from somebody who was already at the checkout.

  • The end date is enforced on our side, not in the visitor's browser. A closure notice that outlives the closure because somebody's laptop clock is wrong is worse than no notice at all, so the decision is made on our edge network before the page is served.
  • It never appears where it would cost you money. Cart, checkout, account and thank you pages are refused outright, whatever the campaign says. Interrupting somebody who is already paying you is the one place a popup is guaranteed to lose.
  • Your mobile search traffic is protected from your own popup. Google treats a card covering the page somebody just landed on from a search result as a ranking signal against you. On that first mobile pageview the popup steps down to a slim panel instead of going silent, so the message still lands.
  • There is nothing to style and nothing to match. Every colour, corner radius and typeface in the announcement reads the same design tokens your site already uses, so it looks like it was built with the page rather than dropped on top of it.
  • If anything about it fails, the visitor sees your site exactly as it is. The announcement never blocks the page from rendering and never retries. A notice is worth having, but not at the price of the site behind it.
What the app does

Four decisions, and you only make two of them.

Pick how loud it is

A bar along the top or the bottom for a standing fact nobody needs to act on. A card over a dimmed page for something that would be a problem to miss, with or without a photo. A wide panel that slides down from the top for a notice that has to hang around for weeks and still be read. Same app, three levels of interruption.

Give it a start and an end

The notice goes live on the date you name and stops on the date you name, which means a Christmas closure can be written in November and forgotten about. You can also pause one without deleting it, and put it back a month later when the same thing is true again.

Choose where and how often

The whole site, the home page only, or one section such as every page under your bookings area. It can appear straight away, after a few seconds, or once somebody has read part way down. And it can show once per visit, once ever, or every so many days, so a returning customer is not told the same thing every morning.

See whether it worked

Thirty days of counts for how often the notice was shown, how often it was closed and how often somebody clicked its button. No visitor is identified and nothing personal is stored. It is enough to tell a notice that is doing a job from one that is only in the way.

How it works

Three steps, and the last one is nobody's job.

1

Tell us what it says

A headline, a sentence, where the button should go if you want one, and the dates it runs between. If you are not sure whether it wants a bar or a popup, say what the notice is for and we will tell you which one fits.

2

It goes up looking like your site

We publish it, usually within the hour, and you get a preview first. There is nothing to style, because it reads your own colours and type, and nothing to install, because the site already knows how to show it.

3

It takes itself down

On the end date the notice stops appearing, and the pages go back to exactly what they were. If you want it back for the next long weekend, it can be republished with two new dates rather than written again.

FAQ

What people ask before turning it on.

Is the Announcements app really free?
Yes. There is no monthly fee, no charge per campaign and no limit that starts billing you once the notice gets popular. It is included with every WebForger site, including the free preview tier. On a subscription platform this is the kind of thing you rent from a third party for a few dollars a month forever, which is exactly why we built it in.
Will a popup hurt our Google ranking?
It can, which is why the app is built around that risk rather than ignoring it. Google's intrusive interstitial signal targets a card covering the content somebody just landed on from a mobile search result. On that particular pageview the popup steps down to a slim panel across the top instead, so the notice is still seen and the page underneath is not buried. The quiet bar never dims the page at all and is outside the signal entirely.
Can we show it on some pages and not others?
Yes. A notice can run across the whole site, on the home page alone, or on one section and everything under it, and you can exclude pages as well. On top of whatever you choose, cart, checkout, account and thank you pages are refused by the app itself. Interrupting somebody who is halfway through paying you is a cost, not a campaign.
Does it slow the site down?
The whole thing is a few kilobytes with no libraries behind it, and it never holds up the rendering of your page. If the app is slow, unreachable or has nothing to show, the visitor gets your site exactly as it is today. There is also nothing to load at all on a site that has no announcement running.
How do we change or remove one in a hurry?
Tell us and it is paused within minutes, or you can let the end date do it if the timing is already right. A paused notice keeps its wording, so putting it back up for the next closure takes two dates rather than a rewrite.
